Report
Canada and USA match should decide about qualification to the semi-final and it had clear favorite. Canadians were better from the beginning, after few seconds of playing Cash had to defend against Bowden´s shot. With the help of two power-plays Canada was increasing its pressure. But Dorion was twice not able to score. Next big chance or Canada came in thirteenth minute when Bowden came in front of the cage. After a great action of Cash against Bridges was the score after first period without goals.
In the second period America started up again. Shot from Jones was caught by goalie Rosen but at the time 17:09 could USA celebrate for the first time. Manns passed perfectly to Adam Page who scored with uncatchable shot under the cross-bar. Canada was shocked with this progress of the game and could not create the same pressure as in the first period. Whereas US team became more self-confident and had more shooting opportunities. Yohe went between circles but overpassed very close Rosen´s cage. Even an individual action of Jones or Bridges´s action at the ending of the period was not finished with a goal. Americans led over Canada 1:0 after thirty minutes of the game.
In the third period Canada still pursued after goal but without any success, what more, Americans had a great defense and did not leave their competitor to play. Canadian team despite of this had enough of shooting opportunities but Dixon passed the cage over, Dorion also did not shoot into cage and shot from Page was Caught by Rosen. Pressure was increasing and Americans did not know what to do. Finally, at the time 43:19 Canada tied a score when Marc Dorion scored with pass from Grassi. It was not enough for Canada so at the ending of the period was still increasing its pressure with very active Westlake. Because there were no more goals, the overtime was added.
In overtime the favorite of the match Canada was still more active, but all attempts were stopped because of the great defense of Americans. When some shot went to the cage it was stopped by excellent Cash. The biggest opportunity of the overtime had US team in its power-play. Conelly passed to Chace who had an empty cage in front but puck got stuck below his sledge. About winner should have decided shootout. After three series it was still 1:1, shooters were less successful then goalies so as late as at the sixth set the youngest participant, seventeen years old Adam Page finally scored. So America beat USA fabulously 2:1 in shootout.
